wHAT'S HAPPENING IN OUR WATERWAYS?

THE BAD NEWS:
THE GOOD NEWS:

Restoration is a proven method to boost salmon populations in the Coos watershed

Research shows that our coast is a bright spot for salmon- they do better here than in other places

The Coos Basin Coho Partnership is taking action! Our Strategic Action Plan identifies areas of our watershed for restoration projects to reconnect our streams and create fish pathways and healthy homes for our Coho

Local support is growing: much of the work is already underway and will continue for the next 25 years.

Coho are a threatened species whose numbers have dwindled significantly for years

Coos Coho Salmon have, and still are, still facing significant challenges in our waterways

Coho spend more time in freshwater than other species of salmon, relying on cool water, shady habitats and upstreams pathways to spawn- but changes in weather, human activity and stream conditions continue to threaten their existence.

Coho are an indicator of overall watershed health: if they aren’t doing well, other species (including us humans) aren’t either.

Connecting Coos for Coho

The CBCP's Strategic Action Plan focuses on our community, economy, and environment in safeguarding the future of Oregon Coast Coho salmon and enhancing the watershed ecosystem. We unite immediate priorities with long-term goals to drive lasting change in the Coos Basin ecosystem by connecting an entire salmon system.
